Havent tried the other offline maps for NYC but really quite impressed with this one. Despite not having a data connection, it still managed to show me where I was, with compass orientation! So yeah good stuff...

This, by far, in my opinion, the best offline street map for New York City.
I dont know why people think it is a good app… and why it is not free.
Great app for visiting NYC. Drop a pin on all the places you want to see & plot your trip.
Great for wifi only iPads and Touches. Covers a lot of the Ny Metro area.
Always spot-on. Great detail, and its offline!!! Excellent. The best NYC map. Suggestion: there is so much detail of New Jersey west of NYC. Why not complete Staten Island, since it is actually a part of the city...? Only about 2/3 of Staten Island shows up on the map.
Nothing I looked for was in here. The Grand Hyatt Hotel next to Grand Central Terminal wasnt listed. Really?! Not nearly as helpful as the Smart Map of London I used there last summer.
FOUND EVERYTHING I NEEDED EVEN THE GRAND HYATT
Lots of NON interactive icons on the map, NO SUBWAYS ON THE MAP. Sure, you can "pin" everything, IF you search for it first... But this is a complete waste of money. Zoom level on the ipad still shows about a 15 block span, not very close in at all. So this is a HUGE download for offline access.... To nothing much at all.
POS app...do not buy.....high school quality....no street/address search feature, whats the point? Poster child for whats wrong with App Store: quality (none) control.
Not enough street detail. Missing street names. Missing street directions on one way streets. Confusing and ambiguous graphics for some street patterns.
The best thing about this map is the "nearby" button, which seems to bring up a very comprehensive list of nearby restaurants, schools, and so on. The problem is you cant filter it. So if you are looking for the nearest movie theater you will have to scroll through a list including the nearest library, fire station and so on. Also, the graphic for my immediate location where I live is wonky, not accurate, and completely unlike on any other map. It represents my apartment building and three other buildings and a nearby park all as one odd shaped area of green! Also you can not zoom in close enough for my taste. Finally the calibration screen keeps popping up and I have to keep tilting my iPad to calibrate. Seven times in five minutes! What the heck is going on.
